About Heather

Welcome. I'm Heather.

I believe learning has the power to change lives — not simply because it gives us more information, but because it helps us become more fully ourselves.

For more than two decades, my work has centered one question: How do we cultivate spaces where people can learn deeply, think critically, communicate courageously, and flourish together?

Heather Hill, PhD — seated at a writing desk with tea, a journal, and books

That question has shaped my journey as a teacher, professor, researcher, writer, facilitator, consultant, mother, and lifelong learner. It has led me into classrooms, universities, independent schools, community organizations, and conversations with educators, women, girls, and leaders who are all asking similar questions about learning, belonging, identity, and purpose.

Today, I continue that work through Homeplace — a home for conversations about learning, faith, writing, leadership, artificial intelligence, educational equity, community, and human flourishing. Whether you're a teacher, school leader, doctoral student, parent, writer, woman seeking community, or a young person discovering your voice, I hope you'll find a room where you feel welcomed, challenged, and encouraged.

My Philosophy

I believe...

  • 01Faith is the anchor that steadies us through every season.
  • 02Learning should cultivate wisdom—not simply achievement.
  • 03Language shapes identity, relationships, and possibility.
  • 04Writing helps us hear ourselves, understand others, and discern God's work in our lives.
  • 05Artificial intelligence should strengthen human creativity—not replace it.
  • 06Black girls deserve abundant spaces where they are seen, challenged, celebrated, and free to imagine expansive futures.
  • 07Community changes us in ways information alone never can.

Beyond My Work

The most important roles I hold are not listed on a résumé.

I am a follower of Jesus, a wife, and the mother of two remarkable daughters who continue to teach me about courage, curiosity, and joy.

Many of the questions I explore professionally are the same ones I wrestle with personally as I seek to steward my life, my relationships, and the gifts God has entrusted to me with wisdom and faithfulness. Homeplace is, in many ways, an extension of that journey.
